Writing for sanity’s sake

Random, insane rantings

Why do we do what we do?

Why do we do what we do?

Why pray each day? Why read Bible daily ? Why come to church? To be shown our need of Jesus.
Why obey Jesus, love our children, serve others? Because we've been shown our need of Jesus and have received His grace and mercy.

Persevere in patient prayer

Persevere in patient prayer

Luke 18:1-8-Christ gives us this parable to illustrate prevailing prayer. The judge who didnt fear God or man and the widow petitioning for justice. Christ is not teaching us to treat God in this manner. Not bugging , wearing down, pestering God until we get what we want. We are to always pray and not lose heart, be patient knowing that God is just, He will hear and give justice. He will meet our needs. He has overcome.

At the heart of the Gospel is our need to for prayer, communion with God. .

In Christian circles Rom. 8:28 is mistaught - that we are to become theological stoics. Even when circumstances stink God calls us to be persistent in humble prayer, and not lose heart-that is the true msg. This type of prayer is when we're trusting in God as He truly is not our idea of who He is or who we want Him to be.
Enduring, continuing on, persisting, don't give up. Why? Bcs Christ promises to bring things to a proper end, even when things in life are getting heavier and heavier. It's a Kingdom necessity.
Rom 8:32- God says that He gave His only Son for us, how will He not also with Him (Christ) graciously give us all things? It is God Who justifies. We must also remember that the "all things" most likely isn't what we think we want or need, isn't done in the timeframe we want or think it "should " be answered. It will be done in Gods way and in His time. We need our minds renewed so we learn to see things as God does.

Luke 12:13-21.

Luke 12:13-21.
The Rich Fool: Covetness kills.
The insatiable desire/thirst for more. The kind of thirst as after one runs several miles. A thirst that can't be quenched.
Jesus is calling us to guard against the thirst for more and more and more of what the world can offer.
V. 16- the destruction of covetousness. Again and again "my"... In his planning he did not include God. The internal dialog is all in personal pronouns.

All our days, all our life, all our possesions are on loan from God and must be used for His glory. Are our possesions a ministry resource for God?
Or do they possess us? Do we have commitment to own a certain thing ( reputation, resume, item...) at any cost?
Christ wants to replace the desire of more with the desire of God.
V.21- the deliverence from covetousness. We must be rich in Christ. Because everything we have is given to us by God. All we have is on loan. Wealth is on the interior. Ex. Zaccheus.
Live a life of faith where you realiE hat all you have and all you are are a gift from God and using and giving it for His glory. Wealth is not what we have it's who we are.

We also need to champion charity. Giving to the physical and spiritual needs around us. What we have received by grace we seek to share for Gods glory, for the furthering of His kingdom.

Cultivate the "wealth is not what we have it's Who we have" mindset.

The love of riches without the love of relationship will be our demise.

Ditto

Every poor weak man may go on in the same condition; this requires no great amount of strength (picture a horse pulling a wagon in a deep rut on a well-traveled path). But to carry the sameness of heart towards God in a variety of conditions, this argues strength, this requires skill (the horse turning to go a different direction that the rutted path pulling all the weight over the obstacles).

What therefore if the Lord will lead you from one condition to another, and so draw out your skill and strength, and with no design but of love upon you, will you then be discouraged?

My answer- a) I'd better write down what I learn about my soul from my behavior or I'll forget the most of the lesson.
                  b) Though in my head I can acknowledge that this situation is for my good and orchestrated out of God;s love, the messed up chemicals in my brain are still gonna feel discouraged and depressed, though sometimes with a momentary reprieve. This then goes back to a portion of coping techniques I've learned through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (hereafter CBT), self-talk. I have to focus on the thoughts that are true and real rather than the warped, paranoid, etc. thoughts that come so easily. Verbally (if necessary) say "STOP" and forcibly decide on and think what is true.
